When He Sees Us
During this holiday season, I
decided to join the challenge of reading a chapter a day of Luke. I am so glad I did as chapter seven has
really blessed me with a revelation!
Luke 7: 11-15
11 Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his
disciples and a large crowd went along with him. 12 As he approached the town gate, a dead person
was being carried out—the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a
large crowd from the town was with her. 13 When the
Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.”
14 Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on,
and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” 15 The dead man sat up and began to talk, and
Jesus gave him back to his mother.
Did you noticed anything?
The widow did not come up to Jesus or say anything to him. She was just
mourning the loss of her son at his funeral. Yet Jesus saw her, a widow crying
over her dead son. He not only saw her
but his heart went out for her. By his
compassion, he prayed over the casket and before everyone knew it, that widow
son was given back to her.
For whatever reason I never saw this story before until now. Smack in the middle of two of my favorite bible
stories, the centurion and the woman with the alabaster box. I had to go back and read this widow story
again. She didn’t say one word to
Jesus. Yet Jesus saw her and restored
what she had lost. This brought tears to
my eyes, as it reminded me of how He Sees.
Widows, He sees us privately crying over our pain and all the hiccups that comes along with losing our love ones. Yet if He sees, He also cares and if He cares, He acts. I’m in the middle of one of those widow hiccups as I write. Nevertheless , what reassurance to know He sees me and will be right there for me, even if I don’t say a word to Him about the matter.
Whew, what a beautiful God we serve!
Be encouraged widows!
